Emily Cracknell was one of Tony’s patrilineal great great grandmothers.
Emily b1827 was the daughter of John and Sarah Cracknell of Linton, Cambridgeshire. John b 1796 and Sarah had at least 5 children and they were Eliza b1821, Susan b1821, James b 1826, Emily b1827, and Harriet b1835. John was an agricultural labourer working in the district.
In 1841 daughter Emily, aged 12 years, was working as the domestic servant for the Linton blacksmith Rick Nordan. Linton is 4kms from Sawston.
In 1850 Emily married Thomas Brown from Sawston and her story will continue as Emily Brown.
To continue a little more of the family story. After husband John died, Sarah lived alone at the High St, Linton house, as a pauper, for a number of years until in the late 1850’s she moved to Soham a nearby village to live with her daughter Susan and her husband Thomas Wright. This couple had six children in 1861 and lived at Blackmore Drive, Soham.
Sarah’s son James had never married and was still working as a farm labourer in the Linton district in the 1860’s when Sarah then moved to live with him back in Linton, but at Bartlows Road. From 1871 through 1881 Sarah continued to live with James, who became an engine driver during this time.
Sarah died in the late 1880’s and there are no more records for James.
