Margaret Dick, as the wife of William Penman, was Rhonnie’s patrilineal great great grandmother, only recently discovered. Margaret and William add a Scottish dimension to our history.
Margaret Dick was born At Lochgelly, Auchterderran, Fife, Scotland on the 19th January 1827, she was the daughter of William Dick and Helen (Ellen) Burton. William was a coal miner, also born at Lochgelly, born in 1796, and who married Helen Burton around 1815. They had at least seven children, that we have identified, and they were Thomas b1820, Robert b1821, Helen b1824, Isabel b1826, Margaret b1828, William Burton b1830, and Elizabeth b1836.
At the 1861 census Thomas and Robert had married and had families and were still coal miners in Fife, Scotland. Margaret by then, had married a coal miner David Penman at Auchterderran on 8th February 1845 and was living at Knockhill, Auchterderran with their six children. Her story will continue as Margaret Penman.
